ROBINSONVILLE, Miss. (AP) — A north Mississippi casino is closed because Mississippi River flooding is partially covering its access road. Local media report the Fitz Casino in Tunica County closed. Farmstead just south of Arkansas County Road 533 is flooding. 43: In Mississippi, Lake Road in Nel-Win Camp is flooding. Fields on Fox Island are flooding. In Arkansas, road from the levee to the sport shooting camp west of Harrah's Casino is covered. 42: In Mississippi, lots nearest Tunica Cutoff Lake in Lakeview Camp are under water.

Mississippi River flooding shuts down Tunica County casino

ROBINSONVILLE, Miss. (AP) — A north Mississippi casino is closed because Mississippi River flooding is partially covering its access road.

Local media report the Fitz Casino in Tunica County closed Sunday at the behest of county emergency managers.

The casino says on its Facebook page that there’s no flooding in its parking lot or casino.

The county’s other six casinos remain open.

County Emergency Management Director Leron Weeks says Mississippi River flooding is at its highest since 2011, when most of the county’s casinos were closed. The Mississippi appears to have crested Tuesday at 52.5 feet at Tunica. That’s the second-highest level ever recorded after 2011.

A number of residential camps unprotected by levees are also flooded, with remaining residents traveling to elevated homes by boat.

The Tunica County Riverpark is also closed.

ROBINSONVILLE, Miss. (AP) — A north Mississippi casino has reopened after county workers built an earthen dike and pumped water off its partially flooded access road.

Media outlets report the Fitz Casino in Tunica County reopened Thursday night.

The casino has said there was never any flooding in its parking lot or casino. However, county emergency managers ordered the casino closed Sunday because the rising waters of the Mississippi River were flooding the road.

The Mississippi appears to have crested Tuesday at 52.6 feet (16.03 meters) at Tunica. That’s the second-highest level recorded after 2011.

All Fitz employees have been notified to report back to work.
