National Lampoon’s Vacation slot is based on the 1983 big hit movie of the same name. Starring Chevy Chase, this comedy follows the Griswold family on their epic road trip to Walley World, an amazing theme park in California. Fun for the whole family to watch with great humour, WMS want to bring a light-hearted side to gaming using this classic.

So how have they gone about this? Well for start, the game is showcased in the stunning Gamefield xD cabinet, a large unit featuring two gorgeous 42 inch displays, one vertical to interact with and the other landscape. On top of this sits the wheel feature surrounded by some of the main characters to draw you in. Using such large and vibrant displays, the game incorporates footage from the actual movie to bring back that nostalgic feeling, much like with Johnny Cash Cash slot, with many of the main characters including Marty Moose, the mascot for Walley World, being featured.

Moving on to the game itself then, it features a 4×5 set of reels with 40 paylines. The idea is of course to obtain a winning combination from left to right, with the following serving as the base symbols in the game, ranked in ascending order based on value:

• Love Me License Plate, Wooden Hut and Pond (lowest value)
• TV
• Cash Register
• White Shoes and Walley Hat (highest value)

Additionally we have a Vacation and Jackpot symbol, each serving as Wilds for all the above symbols, but not eachother. Five Jackpot’s on line 1 at maximum bet awards the top progressive.

Wheel Bonus. This is triggered by three or more scattered green Wheel Bonus symbols, with 3 of these giving a single spin of the wheel, 4 providing a spin and 5x total bet, and lastly 5 awarding 20x total bet and still a single spin of the wheel. The following rewards can be had from the wheel:

• Multipliers. These range from 300-30000.
• 2x. A muliplier of 2x is awarded for all wheel wins and an additional spin is provided. This can only be triggered a maximum of two times.
• Cousin Eddie. This triggers the Griswold Family Vacation Bonus. Here a pick field is displayed with 42 seeds. Picks reveal various symbols, including Aunt Edna, upon which a pick is awarded from a pick field of 5, revealing a credit prize of 1-2x total bet, or a return to bonus symbol which lets you continue picking. If a credit prize is chosen, the bonus ends.
• Marty Moose. This triggers the Walley World Bonus, awarding 8 free spins. The symbols here change slightly to tie in with the Walley World theme, with Balloons and a Roller Coaster becoming Wild, the Balloon symbol appearing only on reel 5. The bonus starts with a guaranteed bonus win value of 7-20x total bet. This increases by 10-20x total bet if the Balloon symbol appears on the screen. Guaranteed bonus win values displayed during the bonus have already been multiplied by total bet.
  At the start of the reel spin, any Marty Moose symbols from the previous game will shift 1 reel to the left, with those in reel one being removed from the screen before pay out is determined. Once the reels stop, these symbols reveal any symbol appearing in the free spins bonus apart from the Balloon.

There are a host of other symbols in the game that can award multipliers, or substitute for Wilds, in fact I think they may have included a few to many. While it’s always nice to see a good range of bonuses and prizes available, in this instance the change in symbols doesn’t really offer much aside from making things a bit confusing. Overall though, it’s certainly a fun game to play, especially for those fans of the movie. This display and interactivity is great, and I love the inclusion of footage from the movie itself.
